About the Author
Cal Nguyen has been acting since 1998, performing in commercials, infomercials, print modeling and Hollywood studio films such as "Bedazzled", starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley, "Just One Night" with Timothy Hutton, "Unaccompanied Minors" with Lewis Black and Wilmer Valderrama, and even television shows like "Nash Bridges", starring Don Johnson and Cheech Marin.
He is recently hot off the 48 Hour Film Project "Voice", serving as the lead character "Steven Emory". Earlier, he was cast in a lead role as "Captain Le" in the short "Escape from Paper City", and then went on to film a supporting role as "Dr. Thomas" in "Pragmatic Repudiation". Known for being a prolific sound-alike (Bill Bixby in particular), he was selected to play the voice of "General Colin Powell" on the Loren Lambert feature, "Shades of Treason".
Cal's breakthrough was when he booked a lead, co-star spot as "Jim Lecter" in the post-apocalyptic web TV series, "Day Zero", which, after buying the script rights last year, he became the creator of the show while continuing his role as Jim. The pilot episode earned him three filmmaker awards so far in 2012 alone, throughout the festival circuit.
He has trained with some of the best coaches such as Richard Hatch of "Battlestar Galactica" fame, Glenn Morshower from "Transformers", Larry Silverberg (leading Meisner coach), casting director Jeff Johnson, and the prolific producer, director and actor, Lance Williams. Cal received other types of training and experience, being a distinguished Veteran of Gulf War II, and also serving in the Information Technology industry for over 16 years.
